The goal of feng shui is to cultivate the flow of Qi in and around people’s living spaces. Modern feng shui is most often used as an interior design philosophy. It helps people maximize the benefits of the Qi flowing through their homes.

Besides the five elements (Earth, Fire, Water, Wood and Metal),  feng shui also relies on the compass. Traditional feng shui schools use the compass directions we’re familiar with: north, south, east, west. The house’s direction on the compass determines which areas of the home correspond to which element.
